The policy of the Obama administration on the required inclusion of contraceptives for insurance providers, even for religiously affiliated organizations, has come under fire from both Republican and religious leaders. The controversy has expanded to include both sides after a recent debate in the House of Representatives did not include a single woman on its panel of experts – despite widespread acknowledgement of this issue being both one of religious freedom and women’s health. As election season approaches, the framing of the issue as either one of women’s health or religious freedom is contentious between the parties; pundits on either side are attempting to portray the their opponents as taking rights away from the people.
