Police Evict Occupy London

Christopher Ryan, International Affairs '12 February 28, 2012 Headlines 0

London police forcibly evicted the Occupy London protesters from the area in front of St. Paul’s Cathedral early Tuesday morning.  Occupy London, ongoing since mid-October of last year, has felt backlash before: the Dean and senior priest of St. Paul’s Cathedral resigned over the protests, while troublemakers inside the camp brought bad press on the entire group. Today’s police action came as a result of an earlier verdict of the High Court which evicted protesters from the area; that verdict was upheld last week when the Court of Appeals refused to allow an appeal.  Many members of Occupy London left peacefully in response to the Court’s decision, and those who stayed resisted police action peacefully.  The Occupy London news stream now includes pictures and reactions from protesters who experienced the eviction, while the Guardian has extensive news and information related to the movement.
